Scripps Research Molecular and Cellular Biology Professor Dr. Amy Lightner
Dr. Amy Lightner is a Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology and a Professor of Immunology at Scripps Research in La Jolla, California. She has operated the organization’s translational laboratory since 2024, with a focus on drug discovery for inflammatory bowel disease. In addition to pursuing grants and delivering presentations to international audiences, Dr. Amy Lightner oversees a laboratory staff of research assistants, postdoctoral fellows, and scientists, as well as translational science students and graduate students.
In addition to her activities at Scripps Research, Dr. Amy Lightner is a colorectal surgeon at Scripps Clinic. She has provided clinical care to numerous patients during her time in this position and has received medical honors in recognition of her work, including the Sherman Prize.
Dr. Amy Lightner received her medical degree from Boston University and her master of business administration from the University of Texas at Austin. She also holds a human biology degree from Stanford University. When she is not working at Scripps Research and Scripps Clinic or making international conference presentations, she enjoys spending time in the wate. She played water polo at Stanford.
